Do people today purchase cameras because they feel it enhances their image? Having a name like Coolpix, apparently the great folks at Nikon seem to think so. The big question here although, is whether or not acquiring a Nikon Coolpix S51 Camera will allow you to take cool pictures such as the name suggests. I suspect not, but lets have a look anyway.
Among the good reasons for ultra compact cameras such as the S51, is their portability. Having the capacity to reach right into a pocket rapidly, grab the digital camera and snag a picture at a moments is really a good feature. Whether or not this works. Don't count on catching a lot of candid moments having a Coolpix. It has a tendency to take a few seconds to begin up once you have powered up, followed by yet another few seconds following you've squeezed the shutter button. Hopefully your subjects are slow (translation... not children), , nor go scurrying from the second they see a camera inside your hand.
Nikon, have to know that the S51 will likely be carried around in every kinds of strange locations. Pants pockets packed with dust and beach sand, backpacks as well as your paper clip collection, and car consoles ideal beside all of your loose dimes and nickels. You'd assume, they'd increase the risk for Coolpix LCD a little more durable for these hostile environments. Particularly given that there is no viewfinder, and your stuck looking at a scratched up LCD to frame all of your photographs.
Megapixels and LCD's screens are the huge selling point nowadays with manufacturers. If only a lot more buyers realized that too a lot of megapixels bring about noisy pictures, especially with an ultra-compact camera who have such a smaller image sensor in the first place. Whilst bigger LCDs might seem cool, they're only a killer on batteries. I swear that little Energizer Bunny is subsidizing the digital camera manufacturers massive LCD hype, in order to ensure he stays employed forever. I'd gladly exchange a 3 inch LCD for any 2 inch 1, whether or not this meant I obtained 30% a lot more images, along with a viewfinder thrown in being a backup.
Simply for good measure, here's a couple other shots to the body with the Nikon Coolpix S51:
- hard to hold onto, power switch too simple to press accidentally
- LCD display is extremely grainy
- door to battery and memory card is fragile and hard to open
- no auto presets dial
- photos under florescent lighting have greenish tinge
